Jayne Berry, OTR/L
Is a pediatric school based occupational therapist who has worked 38 years with preschoolers and school age children in Massachusetts and Georgia. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire in 1972. Jayne has authored the following publications: Fine Motor Skills in the Classroom: Give Yourself a Hand Program, an inclusionary tool to profile a classroom for hand skill readiness; Thumbs Up, a parent guide to hand development; and a chapter in the 1998 Self-Paced Clinical Series from AOTA, “Occupational Therapy: Making a Difference in the School System Practice” entitled, Preschool Hand Skills. In addition, over the past several years, Jayne has become a nationally recognized lecturer on School Based Occupational Therapy.
Kendyl Brock-Hunter, OTR/L, CHT
Is a Certified Hand Therapist who has over 20 years of both clinical and administrative experience. She is actively practicing and applying the information presented in her courses on a daily basis as the owner of Hand & Upper Extremity Rehabilitation of Cleveland, Inc., and as a partner of the Pro Therapy Hand Clinic. Kendyl currently holds the prestigious position of President of the Georgia Occupational Therapy Licensure Board, while also serving on the Occupational Therapy Clinical Faculty of Brenau University. She is actively involved in the American Society of Hand Therapists, activities included: serving as an Item Writer for the Continuing Education Program, presenting at several ASHT annual conferences, editing and up-dating the on-line “Hand Therapy Certification Study Module on CD-ROM”, and serving in a sub-chair position for five(5) different annual conferences. Additionally, Kendyl was President of the Georgia Hand & Upper Extremity Special Interest Section, Secretary of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Hand Therapists, Georgia Occupational Therapy Association Reimbursement Chair, and has been called upon repeatedly as an expert witness. Her awards include receiving the “ASHT Outstanding Committee Member Award” on two (2) separate occasions, and the Barbara E. Grant award for contributions to the field of Occupational Therapy. Ricardo C. Carrasco, Ph.D., OTR/L, FAOTA
Has over 35 years of occupational therapy, neuropsychology, education, and business experience. Dr. Carrasco is certified in the SCSIT, SIPT, NDT and TLP. He is the Chairman of FiestaJoy Foundation, Inc. in Winter Park, Florida where he practices, consults, teaches, and conducts research studies in pediatric and adult occupational wellness. Although based in Orlando, Dr. Carrasco travels to various locations to consult and teach. He also has an active real virtual time practice with clients of various ages and diagnoses from various parts of the world. Prior to FiestaJoy, Dr. Carrasco was Chairman of the Department of Occupational Therapy at the Medical College of Georgia where he also had his pediatric practice. He has lectured and published internationally, and is on the faculty of several centers of higher education, Sensory Integration International and currently, Advanced Rehabilitation Services. His research interests include sensory processing and wellness of gifted and talented children, as well as occupational wellness.
Dr. Carrasco has an earned doctorate in Neuropsychology and Occupational Dysfunction and is a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association. He is active with the Florida OT Association as Sensory Integration Special Interest Section and the American OT Association as the Developmental Disabilities Special Interest Section.
Gaye. W. Cronin, OTD, OTR
Is an occupational therapist specializing in vestibular rehabilitation. She received her Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees from the Medical College of Georgia, and her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. She has 28 years of clinical experience in various physical rehabilitation, education, and administrative settings, including Emory University Hospital and the Medical College of Georgia. Since 1988 she has been in private practice in Atlanta, Georgia specializing in geriatric, pediatric, neuromuscular facial retraining, tinnitus reduction, fall reduction, and vestibular rehabilitation programs. Dr. Cronin has experienced a high rate of success in the reduction and elimination of vertigo and balance dysfunctions using the sound principles of vestibular rehabilitation. She has successfully applied this treatment approach with a variety of disabilities, including vestibular disorders of BPPV, Meniere’s disease, ototoxicity, labyrinthine trauma, neurological disorders, and other disorders of adults and children that affect balance and movements. Cronin has published extensively in medical and therapy journals, and has conducted numerous workshops for occupational therapists, physical therapists, audiologists and physicians.
Dana Lynn Daniel, MS, PT, MTC
Received her Master's Degree in Physical Therapy from University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1995, and holds certifications in Manual Therapy from the University of St. Augustine Florida and in Physical Work Performance Evaluations (PWPE) by ErgoScience. Her research and publications include: "Development of Treatment Algorithms to Assess the Effects of a Manual Therapy Plus Exercise versus Exercise Alone Program on Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain" and "Treatment of Low Back Pain Preventative, Pharmacological and Rehabilitative Interventions." She has provided various presentations for case managers and insurance companies on rehabilitation related topics; and has presented at the APTA National Conference in relation to her research in Manual Therapy. Dana has also held Clinical Faculty Positions at several Universities and Colleges, as well as Advisory Positions such as Consultant to Samford University. She was also a Representative for the 1996 Olympic Games (Soccer Venue). She currently manages an outpatient clinic in Alabama. She has also provided consultation work to General Electric, several city and county municipalities, Cryolife, Lockheed Martin Corporation as well as numerous other companies. In her work environments, she provides hands on patient care utilizing the concepts discussed in the course related to manual therapy, exercise, and industrial medicine by performing FCEs, impairment ratings, job site analysis and other consulting activities. In addition she is responsible for operations and marketing including implementation strategies for the concepts discussed in the course.
Jeff Galloway, MPT, OTR/L, MTC, CHT, CSCS
Owner of Excel Physical Therapy, Inc., an out patient physical and occupational therapy practice in South Metro Atlanta, GA. He received a BS in OT from Eastern Michigan University (1987) an MPT from Emory University (1993). He also attained Certification in Manual Therapy from Stanley Paris at the University of St. Augustine (1999), and received his CHT (2003). Since 1999 Jeff has developed and taught numerous continuing education courses including "Joint Mobilization of the UE", "Soft Tissue Mobilization of the Upper Quarter", "Manual Therapy of the UE", "Manual Therapy of the LE", and "Demystifying the Shoulder Complex-Understanding and Treating the Intricate Shoulder at a Master Clinical Level". Jeff is also an adjunct instructor at the University of Indianapolis in the Post-Professional OT program. Jennifaye V. Greene, PT, MS, NCS
Is a graduate of the University of Miami (Florida) with a Master of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Jennifaye has 19 years of clinical experience focused in neurorehabilitation, which includes acute care, acute and subacute rehab, outpatient, day rehab, and home health. She has presented numerous continuing education courses on adult neurologic assessment and treatment intervention for brain injury and stroke. She became board certified as a clinical specialist in neurology by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in 1995 and recertified in 2004. The ABPTS appointed Jennifaye to the Specialization Academy of Content Experts to serve a two-year term which included writing and editing items for the neurology specialist certification examination. Jennifaye is also a Credentialed Clinical Instructor by the Clinical Instructor Education Board of the APTA. She has taught at Physical Therapy and Physical Therapy Assistant Programs in Georgia and South Carolina. Jennifaye’s special interests and extensive clinical background include gait analysis and training; ankle foot orthosis design to improve gait; splinting/casting of the lower extremity for the neurologic patient; and neuro-developmental treatment (NDT). Judy Hamby, MHS, OTR/L, BCPR
Received her degree in Occupational Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia in 1990, and an Advanced Practice Master’s of Health Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Florida, where she also received the prestigious "Kay F. Walker" Award for Excellence. She actively practices in a large greater metro Atlanta hospital and achieved Board Certification for Neurorehabilitation in 1998 and Physical Rehabilitation in 2007. Judy has 18 years extensive neurorehabilitation experience, from outpatient day treatment to acute care. She was a member of Emory University Hospital’s Stroke Task Force, participating in research on "Forced Use in the Acute Stroke Patient". Her article, "Visual and Perceptual Changes in Parkinson’s disease: Impact on Motor Control and Implications for Treatment" was published in the March 2006 AOTA Physical Disabilities SIS Quarterly and she is currently authoring several chapters for a book on occupational therapy in the acute care setting including the Neurology chapter. Judy has been an Advanced Rehabilitation Services, Inc. national instructor since 1998 on the topics of Vision, Perception and Cognition in the patient with stroke or brain injury.
Jule G. Kagan, OTD, MOT, OTR/L
Received her Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (2007). She received her BS in Biology/Psychology from Grinnell College (1974), and Basic Masters in Occupational Therapy, University of Washington (1980). She has worked in many areas of Occupational Therapy including Psychiatry, Geriatrics, DD/MR and Pediatrics. Dr. Kagan specializes in working with children with Sensory Processing and Autism related disorders and holds certification in the SIPT, Advanced Floortime/DIR training and is a provider of The Listening Program. Dr. Kagan is a member of The Interdisciplinary Council on Developmental and Learning Disorders (ICDL) and has been called on as an expert witness for families of children with Autism. Presently she works with Cobb/Douglas Babies Can’t Wait Program and works in a private pediatric clinic specializing in children on the Autism spectrum. Dr. Kagan has presented both locally and nationally on Coaching in the Early Intervention Program. She has been developing the concept of Sensory Affective Play and has a home based Sensory Affective Play Clinic.
Robert McAlister, MHE, OTR/L
Has been an occupational therapist since 1995. Specializing in anatomy, neuroanatomy, bio-mechanics, and physical dysfunction, he has served as a full time occupational therapy assistant professor for the Medical College of Georgia’s Columbus campus since it opened in 1999, and completed is Masters in Health Education from the Medical College of Georgia in 2002. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in motor learning and control at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Prior to becoming a professor, he provided contract OT services for rehabilitation hospitals and outpatient clinics in the greater Atlanta, GA. area. Certified in neuromuscular, sports, and Swedish massage, Robert has extensive experience in manual therapeutic techniques and operates a small private practice. He has the ability to address difficult concepts in easy to understand language and enjoys a hands-on approach to teaching and learning. Furthermore, he enjoys integrating Eastern and Western approaches to wellness, and appreciates the benefits that both have to offer.
Ileana S. McCaigue, OTR/L, IMC
A nationally certified/registered and licensed Occupational Therapist, author, program developer and educator with over 30 years of experience. Her professional expertise includes the continuum of care ranging from the neonatal intensive care unit to pediatric concerns in the home, school and community, especially with regards to sensory strategy implementation for a variety of behavioral concerns and pre-driving skills. Ileana works with Special Education students in public schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels that require Related Services to provide direct and consultative support to teachers and students to help meet their Individualized Education Plan objectives. Additionally, she sees private clients with special needs to provide pediatric therapy services, such as home and community-based treatment as needed, including pre-driving assessments, sensory-integration therapy, interactive metronome and other sensory-brain based interventions. The recipient of the Barbara S. Grant Award from the Georgia O.T. Association for her dedication and lifetime of outstanding service, as well as a recipient for the Maddak Award in the area of Physical Disability, Ileana has been nationally published, appeared on CNN and PBS, developed numerous highly successful programs, and most recently, the innovative Scale of Sensory Strategies (S.O.S.S.) Tool Kit™ which she will be unveiling at the 2010 AOTA Convention.
Terrie L. Millard, PT, DPT, MMSc, PCS
Terrie Millard, an ABPTS Board Certified Specialist in Pediatrics, earned her BS in Physical Therapy from Temple University in Philadelphia. She also earned a MMSc in Physical Therapy with an emphasis in neurology and completed a post-professional DPT, both from Emory University in Atlanta where she also participated in research on Parkinson’s Disease. Dr. Millard has extensive experience in a variety of pediatric settings including private practice, school systems and rehab. Currently she is the Babies Can’t Wait task force chairperson for PTAG and continues to work with pediatric clients in a clinical and hippotherapy setting. Dr. Millard is an Associate Professor of Physical Therapy at NGCSU where her teaching areas include neuromuscular, exercise physiology, patient care skills, management and others.
Stefanie D. Palma, PT, DPT, M. Ed., NCS, CBIS
Stefanie Palma earned both a BS PT and a M. Ed degree from Georgia State University (GSU). She received a post-professional DPT from the University of Central Arkansas and has practiced physical therapy for over 33 years. Her areas of interest include neurology, neurological rehabilitation, MFR, professionalism, and ethics. Dr. Palma has previously taught at Georgia State University and served as the founding Program Director for the PTA program at Gwinnett Technical College. She is a past President of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia. Dr. Palma serves as a Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). She also served on the Criteria Review Group for CAPTE, the group responsible for developing the 2006 accreditation criteria for all physical therapy education programs in the U.S. Dr. Palma is Department Chairman and Associate Professor in the Physical Therapy Department at North Georgia College & State University and is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Neurology by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist by the American Academy of Brain Injury Specialists.
Susan N. Schriber Orloff, OTR/L
Graduated from the University of Maryland in special education, and continued her graduate studies in occupational therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. During her notable career of 33 years, she has helped develop several programs for children who learn differently. She is the owner of an active pediatric practice, Children’s Special Services, LLC, providing comprehensive therapy services for children aged 3-15. Susan is well known and is the author of the book, "Learning Re-enabled: a guide for parents, teachers and therapists". She writes the "Ask the Therapist" column for Exceptional Parent Magazine, and the "Sensory Scene" for Advance for Occupational Therapists magazine. She is also a contributor to "Instructor Magazine", and AOTA’s OT Practice. Her list of achievements and recognitions includes: participating in the early standardization of Ayres Southern California Sensory Integration Tests, being the only occupational therapist in the state of Georgia to be accepted into the American Association of Educational Therapists, receiving the "Georgia Woman of Distinction" award from the GA and TN chapters of the Crohn’s Foundation (for her work with children who have special needs). She also received 2 awards from the South Carolina OT Association, a Certificate of Appreciation (for educational services) and the "Outstanding Educator Award". The GA OT Association awarded her the GA OT of the Year for 2006, and the Barbara Grant Award for Research and Major Professional Contributions to the profession of Occupational Therapy in 2008. She is a quarterly commentator for AutismOne Radio, and was a guest expert for MITOACTION radio on the topic of mitochondrial disease. Marcia J. Pearl, PT, Ph.D
Dr. Pearl has been both a clinician and an educator since 1968. Her areas of expertise include Woundcare, Gerontology, Cardiopulmatory Management, Ethics and Jurisprudence. She has worked in hospitals, skilled nursing homes, rehabilitation and home health settings. She has held numerous elected positions in the APTA, additionally is a past President of the Physical Therapy Association of Georgia and is currently President of the Georgia Society of Allied Health Professionals.
Ram Shahani, PT, OCS, MBA
Is the owner of Primecare Rehabilitation PC, an out patient, aquatic, physical therapy and occupational therapy practice in North Metro Atlanta, GA. He received a BS from the University of Bombay in 1986, and has been Board Certified in Orthopedic Physical Therapy by the APTA since 1999. Ram also graduated from Georgia State University with a MBA in Management in 2003. He has taught numerous continuing education courses including Mobilization of the Upper Extremity and Evidence Based Practice of Evaluating and Treating the Orthopedic Shoulder. He has also been an adjunct instructor at the University of South Alabama, CCCE for North Georgia College, and Georgia State University. Additionally Ram has been the director of a Clinic in an Acute Care Hospital, a Rehabilitation Coordinator in a SNF and an Administrator for the same. He was also the operations manager of the fitness and occupational medicine program in a hospital. In his current practice Ram continues to enjoy treating patients hands on. Dee Stanfield, OTD, MHE, OTR/L
With over 25 years of experience as an occupational therapist and member of both the American Occupational Therapy Association and Georgia Occupational Therapy Association, Dee has worked in almost all areas of OT practice as well as has served as a fieldwork coordinator/assistant professor for an OTA program. She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in 1981 with a B.S. degree in occupational therapy and completed her specializing in treating special needs preschoolers and children with severe emotional behavior disorders. Dee has served Georgia Occupational Therapy Association as licensure liaison to the State. Licensure Board and is presently the Representative for Georgia Alliance of School Occupational and Physical Therapists where she has served in the past as the legislative chair. She serves as a fieldwork supervisor to Medical College of Georgia, Middle Georgia College OTA Program, and Belmont University. She is also on the advisory board for both the Medical College of Georgia’s occupational therapy program as well as Middle Grant Award for long term commitment to the profession in 2007 and was honored in 2008 occupational therapy doctorate from the University of St. Augustine in April of 2008 and now serves as an adjunct faculty for their post professional OTD program. Additionally she works with Advanced Rehabilitation Services as a presenter. Dee is married to Bruce Stanfield and they have three children Spencer, Skyler and Evan. In her free time she enjoys hiking, fitness activities, reading, traveling and cross stitch and knitting.
Robin Underwood, Ph.D., MS, OTR/L
Is currently an Assistant Professor and the Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the Brenau University Occupational Therapy Department. Throughout her almost 30 years of practice, she has served as a mentor and sounding board for occupational therapy practitioners and students when they have been faced with difficult situations. For her efforts, she was awarded an AOTA National Recognition of Achievement Award at the 2005 AOTA Conference. Robin's expertise with ethics has been recognized in multiple ways. She was appointed to the Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy by Governor Barnes in 2003. She was elected by her colleagues to serve two terms on the Brenau University Faculty Welfare and Ethics Committee and during her first term, she served as the chair of the committee. About 5 years ago, Robin suggested that a new GOTA Board position be created to assist members with problem-solving and sorting through increasingly difficult situations during the delivery of services. Consequently, Robin has served as the GOTA Ethics Co-Chair for the past 4 years. In addition, as part of her role, she has provided annual presentations about ethics at the GOTA Statewide Conferences.
Digby Watt, MPT, MTC, CSCS
Digby is currently working in outpatient private practice in Cary, NC. He received his Master of Physical Therapy Degree from the University of South Alabama in Mobile (2002). Digby received his Manual Therapy Certification from the University of St. Augustine (2006) and is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. His clinical interests lie in orthopedic and sports physical therapy. Digby has a hands-on, manual approach in the outpatient setting at his clinic. He also works part time as a home health physical therapist and incorporates manual therapy into his treatments when appropriate. Digby has been part of the US PGA Tour Sports Medicine Team (2004-2005), and has worked in the rehabilitation trailer at multiple PGA Champions Tour events and also has experience working on the ATP Tennis Tour (2005). He is a member of the Orthopedic and Sports Section of the American Physical Therapy Association.
Krisi Young-Probert, OTD, OTR/L, CHT
Received her doctorate in Occupational Therapy in May of 2006 from the University of Saint Augustine. Krisi is a Certified Hand Therapist at a northeast Georgia outpatient clinic where she specializes in the treatment of acute and chronic trauma to the upper extremity, and is also a Certified Functional Capacity Evaluator. She currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Brenau University’s Occupational Therapy Program. As a former employee of a nationwide provider’s outpatient division, she earned the national distinction of Clinical Specialist in Orthopedics. In addition to her work in the area of upper extremity orthopedics, Krisi adds the following to her list of accomplishments: developed and coordinated a therapeutic aquatics program; has authored and published a geriatric endurance measurement tool; provides OT services to ten area elementary schools; serves as a consultant for ergonomic accessibility; teaches a certification course in medical terminology at an adult literacy center; consults and lectures at two local school systems introducing secondary students to the professions of OT and PT; and has authored several occupational therapy advocacy articles locally and regionally. Krisi is highly acclaimed by past course participants as an "outstanding instructor" who can present difficult information in an easy to understand format, and who provides each participant with practical and immediately useable information.
